The Making of a Book Against Great-Power Rivalry
If you need a respite from the deluge of Venezuela coverage, I just appeared with my co-author Mike Brenes on Kaiser Kuo’s Sinica podcast (Sinica). It was humbling to go on what, in my estimation, is the premier show for and by China watchers.
I’ve been part of many convos about The Rivalry Peril over the past year, but this might’ve been the only one that 1) dug into our “theory” of China, and 2) that interrogated how this book came together as a historical artefact. So if you’re into stories about how books come to be, or what informs my perspective on China, this chat is definitely for you!

Hello, friend! You might have noticed that I’m offering more of Un-Diplomatic without the paywall; I’m trying to keep as much as possible public. But to do that requires your help because Un-Diplomatic is entirely reader-supported. As we experiment with keeping our content paywall-free, please consider the less than $2 per week it takes to keep this critical analysis going.

What a pleasure having you guys on the show! Thanks so much for making the time!
